Everyday life in the Macchiaioli

An exhibition-event entitled "The Macchiaioli. Masterpieces of a Rising Italy".

On display are scenes of daily life and unspoiled landscapes of an artistic movement that broke with Romanticism and Neoclassicism and that fully embodied the values and ideals of the Italian Risorgimento.

The protagonists, who used to meet at the Caffè Michelangiolo in Florence, were not immediately welcomed by critics with open arms, so much so that at the beginning the appellation of Macchiaioli had disparaging intentions.

Brought back to light over time by critics such as Emilio Cecchi and Ugo Ojetti, they find definitive consecration in this exhibition which still has much to tell and to reveal about one of the most important cultural seasons of our artistic history and its protagonists from the best known. come Silvestro Lega, Giovanni Fattori, Giovanni Boldini, Telemaco Signorini, To the less known, but no less significant, such as Adriano Cecioni, Odoardo Borrani, Raffaello Sernesi, Vincenzo Cabianca.
